Simple Marinara Sauce
Ingredients:
2-14 oz. cans of tomato Sauce (not spaghetti sauce, there should be no added seasonings)
1-14 oz. can of diced tomatoes
1 Tbsp. Garlic flavored Olive Oil ( Regular Olive Oil works here too)
1 Tbsp. white sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tsp dry basil (fresh minced basil is even better here)
¼ cup diced green onion
1/3 cup of unsweetened Almond Milk * (your choice of Dairy Free ‘Milk’ works great here as well -i.e. coconut milk, soy milk or rice milk)
Instructions:
In a deep pan heat Olive oil over medium high heat.
Add drained canned diced tomatoes to the pan and stir with basil and green onion
Add canned tomato sauce, white sugar, salt, and black pepper to taste.
Cover sauce and let simmer over medium heat for at least 5 minutes.
Add your choice of dairy free milk (I use unsweetened almond milk). This will cut down on the amount of acidity in the sauce.
Let sauce simmer again for another 5 minutes and it’s ready!
*Your choice of Dairy Free ‘Milk’ works great here as well i.e. coconut milk, soy milk or rice milk as long at it is unsweetened and is not vanilla flavored.
Notes:
This sauce goes great with my baked meatball recipes or just on its own with gluten free pasta (I would recommend the Gluten Free Barilla brand).
If you want a simple meat sauce with your pasta, simply cook 2 lbs. of a ground meat of your choosing in a pan first and then proceed to make the sauce according to the recipe with the cooked ground meat still in the pan.
